Designer Workshop: kolemhlíny (CZE)

Try working with clay and discover how it is used in contemporary architecture and design! You will learn about the production technology, the composition of clay mixtures, and their processing. Most importantly, you will get hands-on experience and create your own object.
This workshop is organized as part of the Czech Grand Design 2024 exhibition, where Kolemhlíny, together with the JanskyDundera studio, has been nominated for the Designer of the Year award for their clay table, around.
Kolemhlíny is an interdisciplinary platform focused on the sustainable use of clay materials in architecture. It develops experimental mixtures from locally available resources, explores the economic, social, and environmental aspects of earthen construction, and collaborates with research organizations and companies both in the Czech Republic and abroad. In addition to consulting and project implementation, it promotes clay materials through education, workshops, lectures, and conferences.
The award-winning studio JanskyDundera, founded by young designers Matěj Janský and Cyril Dunděra, specializes in furniture design, interior design, and exhibition installations. Under the MCDJ brand, they create not only furniture but also other products, including clothing. Graduates of Prague’s UMPRUM, they have gained international experience from renowned studios and brands such as Claesson Koivisto Rune, Lasvit, and Braasi. The JanskyDundera duo approaches projects with sensitivity, respect, and a distinctive sense of humor. Their products are now offered by international brands such as Cappellini and Kler, as well as domestic brands like Master & Master and SegraSegra. The studio has won numerous awards, including the German Design Award, Balthazar Award, and EDIDA.
