Members' Exhibition Preview – John Sanborn: Notes on Us

Be the first to see the new nine-channel installation at Gallery 3!

As our members, you have the opportunity to be the first to see American video art artist John Sanborn's Notes on Us exhibition during a special members’ preview taking place on Thursday, 29 February from 11 AM to 4 PM.

The monumental video installation V+M (2015) from the Kunsthalle Praha Collection, together with another presented series of five videos entitled Mythic Status, opens up the theme of love, sexuality and equal and fluid gender identity.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Sanborn's work was classified as experimental video art; later, the audiovisual artist was at the forefront of MTV's video clip aesthetic, as well as the rise of the contemporary digital art phenomenon.

John Sanborn (*1954) is one of the main figures of the second wave of American video art and will present his recent work. In the Czech Republic, this is the first ever opportunity to encounter the works of a disciple of Nam June Paik. In his poetic works he combines visual elements with movement, spoken word and a distinctive musical line. He explores themes of love and identity through the language of ancient mythology.
