Launch: International Bestseller Mona’s Eyes

Date: 1/10 2025, 7 PM

The launch of the French bestseller Mona’s Eyes, now published for the first time in Czech. In connection with the exhibition Anna-Eva Bergman & Hans Hartung: And We’ll Never Be Parted, we present the book by French art historian Thomas Schlesser, director of the Hartung-Bergman Foundation. The author offers an accessible guide to major works of world art, framed within the story of a grandfather and his young granddaughter.

Ten-year-old Mona has fifty-two weeks to discover the beauty of the world. Every Wednesday after school, her grandfather Henry takes her to a gallery, where together they explore a single artwork. For almost a year they visit the Musée d’Orsay, the Louvre, and the Centre Pompidou, dedicating one day each week to one of fifty-two masterpieces. They study each work carefully, talk about it, and allow themselves to be surprised, moved, challenged, and inspired—always with the knowledge that Mona will lose her sight within a year.

The book has become an international phenomenon, published in 37 countries. The Czech edition is translated by Šárka Belisová.
