Peter Hujar’s Day, 2025

Date: 30/9 2026, 19:00

Ira Sachs's Peter Hujar’s Day presents a cinematic reconstruction of a unique conversation between photographer Peter Hujar and writer Linda Rosenkrantz, which took place in 1974 in her Manhattan apartment. Portrayed by Ben Whishaw and Rebecca Hall, an intimate afternoon encounter comes to life as Hujar recounts a single day of his life with extraordinary vividness.

What begins as an ordinary conversation gradually unfolds into a fascinating portrait of an artist, as well as a window into the 1970s New York cultural scene. Hujar recalls encounters with figures such as Allen Ginsberg and Susan Sontag, alongside the everyday reality of living as an artist on a tight budget. The film transforms into a sensitive reflection on creativity, memory, the passage of time, and what it truly means to dedicate one's life to art.

The film will be introduced by photographer and curator Peter Watkins.
