WILLIAM KENTRIDGE: ANATOMIE ATELIÉRU
WILLIAM KENTRIDGE: ANATOMIE ATELIÉRU
This book by William Kentridge contains the complete transcripts of his talks from the Slade Lectures series held at the University of Oxford in 2024, supplemented with photographs and illustrations. The lectures combine the artist’s personal experiences and an analytical approach, thus making them a unique guide to the work of one of the most influential artists of our time. In six chapters, the author reflects on the birth of an idea, the role of error and revision, and the transformation of a fragment into a finished work. Autobiographical memories of his Jewish family background and growing up in South Africa during apartheid are interwoven with philosophical reflections on art, myth, and human existence. The book also includes a foreword to the lectures by renowned Dutch poet Alfred Schaffer and a curatorial text by Christelle Havranek for William Kentridge: The Battle Between YES and NO, the first comprehensive exhibition of the artist’s work in the Czech Republic.
