Open Call: The Centre for the Less Good Idea

Kunsthalle Praha announces an open call for artists to participate in a workshop led by artist Bronwyn Lace

Date: 31/8–2/9 2026

ABOUT THE WORKSHOPU

The workshop will be led by Bronwyn Lace, drawing upon the practices and approach of The Centre for the Less Good Idea. The Centre is not only a physical space for artists and curators to meet while creating multimedia projects, but also a safe place for experimenting with stupidity and working with a broad range of ideas, including those that would otherwise be overlooked.

Over the course of three days, participants will work with principles of free association, movement, collective improvisation, and interdisciplinary collaboration. On the final day of the workshop, a joint performative presentation titled Open Moment will take place for the public within the exhibition William Kentridge: The Battle Between YES and NO. This will be followed by a presentation titled Finding the Less Good Idea, during which Bronwyn Lace will introduce the Centre's activities, leading into a joint discussion with the performance participants.

BRONWYN LACE

Co-founder (alongside William Kentridge) and director of The Centre for the Less Good Idea, based in Johannesburg, and a Botswanan artist. She has a long-standing commitment to site-specific work and collaborative practices within the arts, as well as across disciplines such as history, museology, philosophy, literature, and physics.

In her approach, she strives to find a balance between subjective, introspective exploration and collective or community processes. Within her performance practice, she focuses on finding physical or material forms to express themes associated with collapse, chaos, death, and entropy. In 2020, Lace co-founded The ZoNE: a collective that calls for the development of a transdisciplinary and deliberative approach to research and curating across the arts and sciences.
