RESEARCH INTO THE FIELD OF HISTORY AND THEORY OF VISUAL CULTURE LIES AT THE CORE OF KUNSTHALLE PRAHA’S EXHIBITION, COLLECTION AND PUBLICATION ACTIVITIES.
Art is part of our culture. Perusing the works of artists created in the past teaches us to comprehend historic events, our roots and the values, pain, fears, joys and passions of previous generations. By looking at the works of contemporary artists we are actually gazing into the mirrors of contemporary society and discovering our own reflections.
Kunsthalle Praha’s mission is to foster a deeper understanding of art. Our priority is to discover, document and share new insights into the Czech and international cultural scenes of the 20th and 21st centuries.
In our research activities we focus on topics that explore art history as well as new developments, contemporary trends and theoretical views. Our research projects often become the basis of exhibitions and are presented in various publications and education programmes. We believe that research, in partnership with local and international institutions, is fundamental to our ability to bring new points of view to the art scene.
One of Kunsthalle Praha’s first publication projects is developing a series of monographs dedicated to the life, work and legacy of individual Czech artists. We named this edition series “Czech Art”. Authored by art historians working in the Czech Republic or abroad, the Czech Art edition is created both for expert audiences and the wider public.
